A Diabetes Lifestyle, Education and Prevention Center

To collaborate with several organizations concerned with health and disparity issues in the local African American community.  The project will implement and evaluate a culturally-competent, community-based intervention in the Near-East side of Columbus.

To continue work that focuses on the reduction of deaths/permanent disabilities from trauma/emergency health issues; enhanced emergency care, improved collaboration among healthcare and community health services, expanded education with regards to injury prevention, and comprehensive preparedness by central Ohio hospitals for large scale disasters.

To conduct healthy weight intervention with preschool age Latino children that targets both caregivers and parents with healthy feeding information, best practices, and nutrition extension activities aimed at preventing childhood obesity.

To reduce the rate of HIV infection among high-risk populations in Columbus by increasing early HIV prevention counseling and testing among these populations.

To enhance the ability of public health staff to understand the origin and development characteristics of diseases and the causes and transmission of disease within a population.

Matching funds in support the Columbus Medical Association’s efforts to research insurance options and develop approaches to risk management for its membership.

Mental Health Association of Franklin County, Inc. - $10,000             

RAAP:  Raising the African American PotentialTo develop ongoing programming that targets African American males ages 12 to 24 years of age in response to the recognized lack of services currently available targeting this high need population.

National Society to Prevent Blindness – Ohio - $22,887                              

Senior Eye Health Project

To decrease the incidence of preventable vision loss among Central Ohio’s seniors through promotion of healthy lifestyles, early detection and treatment.

The collaborative partnership will expand its online inventory of dual language health education and health promotion materials for use by clinicians and others who serve Limited English Proficiency populations.

To develop and pilot an interdisciplinary competency-based curriculum to professional preparation and training in behavioral health.

Improving Health Literacy Through Communication

To improve the health literacy of older adults and their caregivers.  The project will focus on improving communication between and among people over the age of sixty, their care givers, and their physicians and other health practitioners.

Thin Prep Testing Program

To improve the accuracy of testing for cervical cancer and other abnormalities for women from low-income households in central Ohio served by their clinics.
